Why the Uproar for Enforcing Vision Testing for Drivers?

In 1977 New Jersey state passed a law requiring drivers to have their vision tested every 10 years to renew their driver’s license. The law has never been enforced. The current system requires a basic exam at the DMV when originally applying for your license and only requires a 20/50 reading in one eye to pass. After this exam there is no vision monitoring.

Suddenly there has been talk of actually enforcing the law making the roads safe for everyone. I for one would like to know the the person barreling down upon me on the freeway or passing me in a tunnel is able to see, however the public outcry in New jersey seems to indicate not everybody feels this is important.

I disagree, I feel that not only is vision monitoring of utmost importance but would prefer that drivers can actually see signs in front of them and maybe even possess a bit of depth perception.

Please consider this next time you pull a pair of old eyeglasses on, when was your script last tested. If it’s been a while consider that perhaps you have accommodated to changes in your vision and can’t even notice that it is time for an update.

Magnifying Glass, What to do when Eyeglasses Just Aren’t Enough

As we age near vision becomes a problem for all eyes. There are visual corrections for this ranging from reading glasses, to bifocal or mutli focal glasses, even multi focal contact lenses. Often times if you need distance vision correction it is more prudent to correct your vision for the distance and then have additional help for near vision as needed. This is where a magnifying glass can come in handy.

You can find full sheet lighted magnifiers, pocket magnifying glasses, even electronic devices that double as a magnifying glass. A magnifying in it’s simplest form is a convex lens designed to be held up to an object and enlarge it’s details. The magnifying glass is not held at any fixed distance as every object has it’s own ideal focal distance. You often have to move the glass closer to then farther away from an item to determine where it is ideally viewed.

Israel’s Supreme Court President’s Eyeglasses Break

I just read this article regarding the president of Israel’s supreme court. She was in session recently when a man entered the courtroom and hurled a shoe at her face breaking her eyeglasses. Maybe it’s time people involved in politics start wearing sport goggles before they go out in public…

A brief summation of the incident is the judge was overseeing a hearing on medical cannibis when a man with a history of violence entered the courtroom. He then asked if she was the president and once receiving confirmation he took off his shoe and hurled it at her. The shoe made contact with her face and broke her eyeglasses. Before he was apprehended he managed to take the second shoe off, throwing it as well. This time, the president knowing what was coming was able to duck out of harms’ way.

I guess the man didn’t agree with her point of view, but is breaking her eyeglasses really going to change it?
